Vendor Categories

A vendor category groups vendors, such as Suppliers, Utilities or Contractors, and decides which entry screens list its vendors. A supplier you buy goods from belongs on the purchases screen; the electricity company belongs on the operating expenses screen. Keeping each vendor list short makes entry faster.

What you see depends on your role. If the menu, a button or a setting on this page is missing, ask your administrator to give you the permission listed above or to turn on the feature. Only administrators can turn features on and change site settings.

Add a vendor category

  1. Open Contacts > Vendor categories and select New Vendor category.
  2. Enter the Name.
  3. Under Listed on, check every entry screen whose vendor list should show the vendors of this category:
    • Purchases, for goods you buy to sell;
    • Operating expenses, for rent, utilities and other running costs;
    • Other expenses;
    • Fixed assets, for vendors you buy equipment or vehicles from.
  4. Select Publish.

The list shows the screens each category is listed on, or On no entry screen when none is checked: its vendors then appear on no entry screen.

Change or retire a category

Select Edit, change the name or the screens, and select Publish. A change applies to every vendor of the category. Clear Active to retire a category: it is no longer offered when you edit a vendor, and its vendors no longer appear on entry screens. Two categories cannot have the same name.
