Business Profile

The business profile holds who the business is: its legal name, the owner, the EIN, the address and the phone number. Al-Mohaseb uses these details on reports, returns and e-files. The profile also sets two calendar rules that the books follow: the month the fiscal year starts in, and the time of day the business day starts.

Fill in the profile once, right after the site is set up, and update it whenever the business moves, changes its phone number or gets a new name.

Can't find it?

What you see depends on your role. If the menu, a button or a setting on this page is missing, ask your administrator to give you the permission listed above or to turn on the feature. Only administrators can turn features on and change site settings.

Fill in the business profile

  1. Open Settings > Business profile.
  2. Fill in the three sections described below: Business identity, Contact and Calendar. Fields marked as required must have a value.
  3. Click Save.

When everything is valid, the message Site settings updated successfully. appears. If a value is missing or not in the right format, nothing is saved: the message appears in red under the field. Correct it and click Save again.

Business identity

FieldWhat it does
Owner nameThe owner's full name. Required.
Business nameThe legal name of the business, used on returns and e-files. Required.
DBA"Doing business as": the name the business trades under, shown on invoices and reports. Required. If the business has no trade name, enter the legal name again.
EINThe federal Employer Identification Number. Required the first time you save the profile. Type it as 12-3456789 or as nine digits without the dash. After it is saved, the field stays empty and shows only the last four digits, for example *****6789. See How the EIN is protected.
TR numberThe state tax registration number. Optional.
The business is incorporatedTick this if the business is a corporation. It shows the Date incorporated field.
Date incorporatedThe date the business was incorporated. Required when The business is incorporated is ticked. If you untick the box, the date is removed when you save.

Contact

FieldWhat it does
PhoneThe business phone number. Required. Type it any way you like, for example (313) 555-0142 or 313.555.0142; a leading 1 is accepted. When you save, it is stored as 313-555-0142.
The phone number is outside North AmericaTick this for a foreign number. The number is then kept exactly as you typed it, instead of the 000-000-0000 format.
StreetThe street address. Required.
CityThe city. Required.
StateThe state, picked from the list of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Required.
ZIPThe ZIP code: five digits, or a ZIP+4 code. Required. You can type a ZIP+4 code with or without the dash (48226-1234 or 482261234); it is stored with the dash.

Calendar

FieldWhat it does
Fiscal year starts inThe first month of the business's fiscal year. January by default. A fiscal year is named after the calendar year it ends in. For example, when the fiscal year starts in July, July 2026 to June 2027 is fiscal year 2027.
Business day starts atThe time at which a new business day begins. Sales made before this time belong to the previous business day. Stores that stay open after midnight often use 04:00, so a sale at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday is counted on Monday. Leave it at 00:00 (midnight) if the business closes before midnight.

The business day follows the site's time zone, which is the Default Time Zone in Settings > General. Al-Mohaseb handles daylight saving time for you: on the night the clocks change, the business day is simply one hour shorter or longer.

Values set when the site was created

When the site was set up as a convenience store, Business day starts at is already 04:00. When it was set up as a service business, it is 00:00. In both cases the fiscal year starts in January. Change them here if your business works differently.

How the EIN is protected

The EIN is a sensitive identifier, so Al-Mohaseb never shows it in full:

  • It is stored encrypted. The business profile shows only the last four digits, such as *****6789, as grey text in the empty EIN field, with the note An EIN is on file. Leave the field empty to keep it.
  • Nobody sees the full EIN on this screen, not even an administrator.
  • To keep the stored EIN, leave the field empty when you save.
  • To change it, type the new EIN and save. The new number replaces the old one.

The EIN must be nine digits, written as 12-3456789 or 123456789. A number that starts with 00 is not a valid EIN.

Troubleshooting

I can't find Settings > Business profile. You need the Manage the business profile permission, and the Accounting feature must be on. Ask your administrator. See Roles and permissions.

I want to remove the EIN. Leaving the field empty keeps the stored EIN, so it cannot be cleared from this screen. Type the correct EIN instead.
