Bank Feeds

A bank feed brings your bank's transactions into Al-Mohaseb by itself, every day, instead of you downloading and importing statements. You connect a bank once through Plaid, a service banks use to share account data, and choose which bank account of your books each of its accounts feeds. New transactions then appear in Review transactions, already categorized by your bank rules.

Can't find it?

What you see depends on your role. If the menu, a button or a setting on this page is missing, ask your administrator to give you the permission listed above or to turn on the feature. Only administrators can turn features on and change site settings.

Your bank password

You sign in to your bank in Plaid's window. Al-Mohaseb never sees or keeps your bank password. It keeps the connection's access key, protected, and nobody can read it, not even your accountant.

Connect a bank

  1. Open Banking > Bank feeds and select Connect a bank.
  2. In Plaid's window, find your bank, sign in, and choose the accounts to share.
  3. Back on Bank feeds, the bank shows with its accounts and their balances. For each account, choose the bank account of your books it Feeds, such as Chase checking, and the date to Bring in from. Leave an account on Does not sync to leave it out.
  4. Select Save the accounts.

The transactions come into Review transactions a moment later. Plaid can bring up to two years of history; Bring in from leaves out the transactions before it, such as those you already imported from a statement.

Add the bank accounts of your books first, under Banking > Bank accounts. A bank account can be fed by one account only.

What comes in, and when

  • Each transaction comes in once. A transaction the bank has not posted yet (pending) waits until it posts.
  • The feed syncs when the bank tells Plaid there are new transactions, once a day in any case, and when you select Sync now.
  • When the bank changes or removes a transaction you have not transferred yet, the change is made in review. When it was already transferred to the books, the books keep it, and the transaction shows Changed at the bank or Removed at the bank so you can check the entry.
  • The Balance and Available columns show what the bank reported at the last sync.

When the bank asks you to sign in again

Banks ask you to sign in again from time to time, for example after a password change. The bank then shows Sign in again in yellow and stops syncing. Select Sign in again, sign in in Plaid's window, and the feed resumes where it stopped: no transaction is lost.

Disconnect a bank

Select Disconnect on the bank. The connection is removed, at Plaid too, and new transactions stop coming. The transactions it already brought stay in Banking and in the books.

Testing with a sandbox

On a platform set up with Plaid's Sandbox, the banks are test banks. Choose any bank, such as First Platypus Bank, and sign in with the user name user_good and the password pass_good.
